I just celebrated my 26 BDay (ahem!) and this time I indeed celebrated it. Most BDays I spent them low key; a dinner here and there, but not really planned for it. Mostly my friends or extended family do something and I go along. This year, I don’t know why, I really wanted to do something. Would it be because I still can? I guess so.
Then, my brilliant idea was to go not only for dinner and the whole hassle of coordinating a place, time and the whole thing with friends, but also to throw in an extra request; to be dressed up with an 80’s outfit.
At first, all of my friends were on board. A week after, half of them were not even shopping for anything yet. By the day of the whole gathering they still had nothing arranged, it kind of sadden me to be honest. However, I tried not to care and just made it all about me that day, with or without their dress support. My bestest friend, on the other hand, did try. We were the ones that really looked retro that day. Loved it!
So, just so you have a little fun and possible a laugh, here is a preview of my look:
Just in case you really wonder how much I spent and what did I do to obtain this look, here it goes step by step:
- Since the 80’s are kind of back – and almost being replaced by 90’s soon – there is plenty of stuff in all those dollar-stores and girly-girly stores. I got for C$10 bracelets, earings and hair applique.
- I bought a set of eye shadow at For ever 21, which costed me C$4, this was great combination of 80’s colors
- I got a tight black skirt from H&M for C$6 which I can wear daily – smart purchase.
- I found the 80’s looking shirt at Urban Planet for C$7 which it will help for another outfit, perhaps Halloween?
- I already had leggings and tank tops to go underneath the shirt, so no really an expense there. And found a necklace that got to be used again.
- For the make up, I did try to go smooth, but color-intense look. I’ll see if I can find a close up shot to describe this. But, I impressed myself with my technique. I did not look like a clown, which I tried to avoid. It took me, maybe 30 mins to do my art work lol.
- The hair, oh God, this was the most time consumed for me. I iron-curled it ALL using a 1 1/2 inch curler. Then, I used a brush to make it all crepe and sprayed it. I place the hair applique afterwards.
- and Listo! an 80’s look was just born
Regardless of all that amount of work I had the best of my BDays I must confess. We went all for dinner, drank a lot alcohol and went for dancing to this 80’s night event that was perfect since I used that outfit to the fullest. There were a lot of people women dressed up too. It was fun to see everywhere around and how most women were enjoying their outfits and others too.
The only negative side to this, I couldn’t sleep well that night. Once my body touched the bed it went into shock-mode. All my muscles tensed up, and from head to toe I was in pain. It took me an hour to fall asleep. These are the effect of dancing for hours and the lack of exercise ha-ha. I was a zombie the next day (no picture though).
I hope I can repeat this again. And I hope my husband keeps being as amazing as he is already and keeps helping me looking after the baby, which I’m sure he will, so I can feel like a human.
I AM HAPPY.
