I am exhausted, but before I go to bed I’ll make sure I write down this so I don’t forget. I’ve been so out and about lately that I don’t have time to even check my email.
I just spent another day at the mall. And while trying some clothes with my girlfriends I couldn’t help but notice that most of my friends, and me included, either have one “thing” that has been neglected in the past months (or years) or more than a couple.
The top 10 neglected areas in a first time parents are:
1. Hairy armpits. When I was single I went to try some prom dresses with my best friend. We made plans and all. We arrived at the stores and I couldn’t believe that my friend had a frenchy-looking armpit. She could barely feel comfortable lifting her arms when needed, so I couldn’t understand why she didn’t shave them for that occasion. I don’t mean every time, but ‘just’ that occasion. Since then, I make sure to shave them everytime I plan on trying outfits with my friends around. The use of deodorant goes without saying.
2. Old underware. Same friend, had that day a sad looking bra that was screaming for a replacement! It was originally white but it was already looking kind of like eggshell color and some threads already running along one side. It was not because of money, it really looked as if she just either hasn’t let go of it or it is not in her mind to buy a new one. I have to say, also, this case made me start looking at my underwear and if not twice a year, I buy new one – top and bottom – every time I see they to be replaced. I love the feeling of new underware too.
3. Rough Feet (toes, toe nails, heels). My feet cry for a pedicure asap. Not only do I need a polish, but also a good scrub on my heels and all around the toes too. They feel so rough and dry. I, sometimes, feel okay knowing all the stuff I do around the house, baby and outside, but when I am outside with my feet exposed, I just want to hide them. Anywhere.
4. Socks. Another neglected item. Not only for women but also for men. See, this I see it all the time at home. My husband is the typical man who would not get new socks unless I grab them for him at the store or get them as a gift for x-mas. They brake down in two categories: the whites, and the rest. The whites are already non-existence. they slowly turn grayish or developed some kind of mutation of growing pieces at the bottom in different colors and shapes. The rest, well, I just need to keep an eye in the toe area and see if they have no holes.
For me, well, it is more complicated. I have long leggings, knee length, ankle, the balerina type, and sport socks. I also have hosery. However, I only have one rule: if they are still good to use I keep them, if not I replace them. I love the look of good socks when taking my feet out my shoes – very common in Vancouver at people’s homes.
5. Uneven Eyebrows. I know, this is a delicate area of the eye and not everybody is up for it. I also know that most people do not have the time, but I can’t help it. I can’t stop noticing eyebrows. I guess it is true that people communicate a lot with their eyes huh? or maybe they only talk to me “looooook at meeeeeeee”. I try very hard to at least remove one or two very noticeable ugly hair.
6. Dirty ears and mouth. Yikes! Another one very common. The ear, well, let’s just say some people do not use q-tips after their showers. After all that soaking and softening of material inside the ears, a good q-tip wouldn’t be bad. It pays off in the long run, believe me. There is nothing more unpleasant that seeing someones insides – by accident of course. I feel bad for doctors who actually intent to look with a small light in there.
For the mouth, I am a complete sucker for brushing my teeth after lunch. At work, I have a small bag with make up of course, but I also have a small stash of tampons and a small toothpaste and brush. There is nothing more disgusting than having morning-coffee smell combined with an afternoon-lunch for a breath. Or at least have gum handy to mask it, especially smokers.
7. Unpolished Fingernails. My fingernails are to be hidden from the world right now. I have the time to make them look good to my eyes, but for some reason I procrastinate. At least applying some shine coat is needed. Anyway, I guess when I see other woman’s good looking nails reminds me of my very neglected fingernails. I do not like the idea of going to a salon for this since I know how to apply polish, but because I rely on my own skill I end up not doing it.I even bought a new set of nail polish to inspire me, but I guess I really need a very big kick in the ass.
8. Damaged Shoes. Okay, don’t get excited and think you’re out the hook here because you have a million of them. No no no. I meant the care of your shoes. Do you have a black pair of shoes? you said yes? look again, are they really black? that’s right, they look grayish. Okay, let’s see this: grab your fav shoes now. Very well, now look at the soles, how is it at the heel level? are they in good shape or are they already cutting part of the shoe (look at the picture). Well, this point is to you. Some time we feel great wearing those old shoes that we refuse to let them go. Or even worse, repairing them could be sometimes as expensive as that the damn cost of new ones, so buy them again then! hahaha
9. Healthy Looking Hair. Oh, the most talked about and yet it seems like if it’s not even in the radar of some. I see two sides of this: style and color. For some, having a haircut is not a problem, for others having it colored is not a problem either, but when both are a problem then it totally shows!
Just last month, my hair was long and totally out of style. The original layers had gone wild and created another style altogether. It was awful. I felt George of the Jungle, but not a good looking one. And, to top it all up, I am not happy with my natural looking hair color. I see that it doesn’t give me any light anymore. I keep postponing an appointment to the salon, but I should do something soon. Something so small, so simple, so light or sometimes so delicate can make or brake your entire look.
This used to be my morning morning pre-haircut (I wish he was close to me in my mornings though) |
My natural hair color – it doesn’t help my face features to pop up – the woman is not me, just to clarify lol |
10. I couldn’t think of a #10, do you have one in mind?

I love the list. I try to keep up with pampering myself and keeping myself up-to-date on hygiene. Very important! I have had my moments in the past when I’ve let things slide. It happens during Motherhood. Not always a hell of a lot of time to do some sometimes 🙂

Not bragging, but back in my single days, working as a flight attendant I was immaculate and would pass your list with flying colors. This month, specially with husband being away I would fail all! Well, not the shoes. I polish my riding boots every day. And the zipper broke on them today. Which tells me I wasted mad amount of money, love and care on something that just died. Such is life…

Well, is not really a mark for acceptance here, but they are one of those things that once in a while we think when we “should have done it” earlier. One of those that needed a little bit of our time.
I love pampering my self, I guess I am such a girl lol

The only thing I’ve really let slide, is my hair. It’s long and unruly and I keep thinking I need a trim. But I haven’t got round to making an appointment. Eeek.
I probably need new undies too hehe.
#10? For me, that would be my skin. I haven’t had a facial in nearly 2 years. I used to apply my own mask at home at least once a week. Now it’s once a month if I remember. And it shows! Sigh.
