…continuing the story from Mother Of All Tweet Ups – Part 1
Once my husband mentioned he knew Bruna since High School I couldn’t help but wonder; would I like her any different as if I did not know this piece of information? would she like me after knowing I am married to an ex-high school classmate? I guess that was the chance I had to take, right?
I was feeling butterflies in my belly as the date was approaching. Everybody was twitting with excitement about the upcoming reunion and my butt belly was just clenching and clenching. And, to add a cherry on top to this Bruna posted her very hip and trendy outfit to wear – actually, she displayed about a choice of three. Seriously, now I had to make sure I had a proper shower.
The day arrived and I got ready for the whole thing. Made sure to remind my husband to leave work on time so he could be home by the time I needed to leave. The trip, as seen in the map in the previous post, took me around 1 hr. I thought it was going to be even more considering the meet up was around rush hour.
In order for me to move from Vancouver to White Rock I chose the safest/easiest road to remember – King George. And that meant for me to cross the Patullo Bridge – the most trafficked bridge, one of the oldest and narrowest. I could not believe there were stupid drivers zig zagging, passing by in such a narrow stretch. Those times make me feel the need to attache a camera to the front of my car and record EVERYTHING.
After the bridge, things were smooth. Not much traffic, but lots and lots and lots of lights. It was one of the longest route ever!
Once in the White Rock area, perhaps, maybe a couple of blocks before arriving to my destination, the road seemed to morph into something like in a recreational park. I felt like I was getting in a rollercoaster. I felt the road suddenly getting lost in a cliff. An almost 90 degree angle down I saw my life car going into. I heard myself saying “I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die, this-is-what-close-to-die-feels-like, I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die, I’m gonna die”.
After freeing my foot from the brake, I managed to find a close parking spot behind The Boathouse and get mentally prepared to meet the girls behind #MotherOfAllTweetUps.
Since I arrived 30 min later than the arranged time I definitely knew ALL of their eyes would be on me for sure, not in any way but definitely at least to acknowledge my arrival.
The restaurant was almost full and very loud. I was told to find my party at the left end and my heart raced like crazy. As I approached the table, closer and closer I spotted Bruna. I totally forgot that I gave heads up of my gold sequin shirt so they look for me as I frantically look for them, but by the time I arrived there I still had my green jacket on which made it hard for them to spot me. {This could have been one of those time where one could just assess the situation and take off since you are almost incognito he he he}
I think I said hello to each one of them, but clearly I remember saying – Oh My God!… a lot.
I immediately requested a hug from Bruna – we were warned about hugs, so I wasn’t afraid to ask for one.
As I remembered, they were sitting in the following order:
Since I was the last to arrive, I was one of the ends at the table. You know what that means? Hearing impairment. That’s right, this little chica had a hard time to hear what some of them were saying. You could see a lot of nodding and giggles, most of the time I did hear clearly, but man! sometimes my ESL struggled in there.
I said good things and probably odd ones too. I did not hide my persona for sure. I, somehow, managed to share my passion for Dexter, Criminal Minds – although, I kind of backed out later considering it was giving me nightmares recently.
Somehow a question regarding MY age came up. And funny enough, I was labeled as blog savvy. As I was talking about scripts, gadgets, hosts, domains, etc.. I hear them asking “How do you know all that?” Umh. “I. Just. Do” – I said. And it is true. It has been easy for me to pick things up – to some extend of course.
After our dinner I managed to squeeze quietly a little -very little- something. I wrapped some Bailey’s chocolates for each one of them. I chose them because Twitter seems to show that Bailey’s popular thing among moms. I quietly remained feeling bad after hearing that Bianca was allergic to chocolate. I surely did not know and hoped one of her kids were not so they could eat them.
There was a photo session too. In fact, most of them were taking pictures with or without professional cameras. Here is one that was taken by Bruna’s lens:
From Left to Right: Bianca, Bruna, Amanda, Sue, Lisa, Stasha and Me. |
The more we interacted, the more I felt closer to them. The more we got closer the more I could appreciate their personalities. For instance:
Bianca from Bits of Bee, do you know she is a talker? in a good way. She was so outgoing and fun and light. you just want to hang out with her all day long. Plus, she is a hottie.
Bruna from Bees with Honey, exactly as I pictured her; a lady. So posh, so refined, so stylish.
Amanda from Lilahbility, as beautiful as in her blog’s pictures. Even though she mentioned she was wearing make up, and had two massive zits that day, she looked as beautiful as a teenager can be – just fresh and radiant.
Sue from Cookie’s Chronicles, where do I start? Ok…she looks way younger in person. Trust me, I did not recognize her when I arrived there. She was the only one from the bunch that I went with a pointy finger saying “Oh My God,…Sue? You look, so, different!” Sue was observant at times, I felt stupid besides her just so you have an idea. She strikes me as one of those people that only say intelligent things at the perfect time in the right moment. Just a smart woman. I joked about her flying from Calgary only to meet up with us, I still want to think she did even thought some of her family members beneficiated from her presence too.
Lisa from Schwartz Chronicles, one of the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. Very smart, funny and intelligent woman who found some inspiration in my blah blah about blog knowledge. And, who ended up being a very close friend to Amanda and somehow being the two of them there made them feel more at ease with this tweet up. See, that’s smart!
Stasha from The Good Life, for starters…the only blond in the table. Then, find it hard to remove the country-look from my head. Apparently she showered that day, just sayin’. She was so funny, – from the times I could hear, remember, we were in opposite sides and couldn’t even read her lips – so entertaining and warm. She is the type ‘what you see is what you get’; whatever I felt from her blog I felt it in person. {pst pst: I am still waiting from all her pictures of that day, she took a bunch}
As the time passed I couldn’t stopped feeling something close to happiness. I felt somehow high in gratitude. I got to pushed myself to do a lot of things out of my comfort zone and not only did I successfully managed those anxious situations, I could also met the people behind some of my favourite blogs. I couldn’t stop smiling on my way back home and definitely couldn’t stop thinking of when would our next #motherofalltweetups be. Do you think you could be able to attend one with us? I so recommend it.
