I get asked a lot of times, seriously a lot of times, where can someone find the best tacos in Vancouver? I usually do not repeat a lot of times my answer; “La Taqueria”.
La Taqueria, has the best tacos in Vancouver in my opinion.
A little background. This establishment started with a location in Downtown Vancouver. I went there a couple of times soon after their opening and I never came out happy. I was satisfied, but not thrilled with their flavour. There was always something not right either the tortillas were cold, or the meat was not consistently seasoned, or the service was slow, always something.
Then, I found out upon my return to work from maternity leave, they opened a second location which was close to my workplace at Broadway and Cambie. So, I decided to give them another chance and went there for a quick lunch.
I ordered 4 tacos total, 2 Lengua – tongue- and 2 Cachete – beef cheek. To my surprise they were delicious and perfect. A delicatessen in my mouth. I was in heaven as I slowly chewed them.
I kept going there almost every week after that. I was hooked.
I started ordering other stuff to test their flavours and determine if I was just lucky that day or if in fact they were that good. I ordered fish tacos, asada (beef) and pastor (pork). In my opinion they were average.
They have a couple of vegetarian options too, but as a true Mexican, I don’t care too much for those. The ones that make me going back for more are those two that hypnotized me at first, my regulars: lengua and cachete. They are just as perfect and as tasty as I would find them in my dear Mexico.
If you ever want to eat a great taco, try La Taqueria on Cambie and order the cachete or lengua. You won’t regret it.
