Sometimes I run out of ideas of what the next meal should be for breakfast.
For a while I was making a lot of eggs: fried eggs, scrambled eggs, eggs with beans, eggs with sausage, eggs, eggs and more eggs. Little M got tired of this in a week.
Then, husband started to try this ritual of making pancakes and waffles for breakfast in the weekends (and I am not fool to say no to that! especially when I’m not making them) and see if this could be a success with the munchkin. And it was, Baby M loved it! She got to help adding ingredients and mixing them, that was a whole kindergarten activity for her and she even got to put candy syrup to that. But after several days, she got tired of them too and stopped eating them.
Following to that, little M got sick and her appetite declined to a point she was becoming picky selective with our offers. Something needed to be done and fast. I wanted her to eat and I was running out of ideas again and my very least desirable option was candy, but really that wasn’t going to happen.
So I asked around in hope to find inspiration and that’s when friends reminded me of a very old tradition: hot cereals. Although I am not a fan of hot cereals, I have to admit they bring back some childhood memories, so giving them a try wouldn’t be that bad.
In my kitchen covers I was able to find: Cream of Wheat and Oatmeal.
Cream of Wheat: Peaches, Pecans, Maple Syrup. |
Oatmeal: Peaches, Pecans, Maple Syrup, Cinnamon, Yogurt |
And I am happy to report they were a home run! Ever since, the kiddo keeps asking for her favourite Maple Syrup and Peaches Oatmeal.
Not only the toddler was so happy with this breakfast that made her ask for seconds, but also this mama was ecstatic to re-gain inspiration in what she thought it was a lost tradition. Let’s see for how long this mama can keep up the breakfast variations in this house. Hold me?
Do you know a successful meal for toddlers? I need to keep the inspiration going for this mama.

I’ve never tried Cream of Wheat before but I eat oatmeal ALL THE TIME. I’m not even a breakfast person but I know it’s the most important meal of the day so I suck it up lol

In my defense I didn’t know what cream of wheat was either. My Canadian husband told me it was a tradition to eat it when he was a little. But it wasn’t that bad, with the right ingredients.
