Is your Blogger template designer or HTML areas not applying any changes to your blog (color, font, size, type) after you hit the ‘apply’ button? I might have found the solution.
Blogger template designer: anything you select, does not apply to the blog. |
I recently switched my blog from one account to another, long story short it went well. I had to re-install a couple of widgets such as IntenseDebate for my comment management, LinkWithin to show related posts, as well as custom code to the HTML page to run the Facebook plug in and Instagram.
Before switching to this new account, my blog was customized in almost every area possible. A year later, I started to notice problems with the template updates, but thought they could be due to all the customization done before.
When I finished the transfer of accounts, I got curious as to why those errors were present since most of the little customization got lost (margins, padding size, etc…)
Codes to test:
1. IntenseDebate
2. LinkWithin
3. Facebook and Instagram scripts
Initial test:
Considering that I had to apply a new blogger template, by default I was going to test the changes to the small customizations (margins, padding, size, etc…). I re-installed all the codes described above and the result: it worked! I was able again to change from the customize and HTML areas within Blogger in an instant. The problem: it didn’t last long. I used all internet browsers, Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and then Safari which seemed to be the only one able to work okay with the template. One day later and Safari joint the club.
I was back to square one. I couldn’t believe it. I was so close to the edge of moving to WordPress, which I still don’t want, but this was getting so annoying that I couldn’t think of a better solution. Blogger didn’t seem to have documentation on this issue. So I had to take action on my own hands.
The final test:
Day 1.
I apply a blog template from scratch. I chose the Simple template, which is the same I originally used before.
Select template: This step is important and it has to be the first one. |
I re-installed IntenseDebate only and waited a day and tried it from several devices and internet connections. The Blogger template designer was working great and performing updates live.
Day 2.
I re-installed Facebook and Instagram scripts and waited a day and tried it from several devices and internet connections. The Blogger template designer was working great and performing updates live.
Day 3.
I re-installed LinkWithin and waited a day. Blogger went funky and didn’t allow me to do any more updates to the template.
I had to start this game all over again, but at least this time I knew which code I was not about to re-install, LinkWithin, or at least not until Blogger catches up with this issue and presents a better solution.
Blogger template designer is working just fine since not having LinkWithin active.
There you have it, the solution to get your Blogger template designer working and applying changes.
