When I first joined Blogger and started following other blogs I discovered I was able to read their newest content by just jumping to Google Reader right from my Blogger account. It was easy. It kept me organized and I was able to do all from the front panel. Sweet.
Then, Google announced the end of Google Reader as of July 1, 2013, and that we should find alternative options. Another piece to consider is your data won’t be available after the shutdown, so make sure you are able to export it via TakeOut in Google.
So here I am, sharing my Best Google Reader Alternatives hoping you see this information and be able to use your still current data.
Feedly. So far, the favourite of many. This reader is the one I currently use. It’s sleek, simple but elegant. I have it installed it in almost every PC I use. If I add content on one device it synchronizes it, and we all love that. And, to make it more irresistible Feedly has a mobile app, which also synchronizes. You have the option of bringing your saved Google reader content or add content manually.
Another rave is the instant sharing options: Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Email,…ALL.
The Old Reader. Desktop only as of today, this reader will allow you to import your current Google Reader subscription. I tried it for a while, but it wasn’t as friendly to edit my imported content.
Their look is not as fresh as Feedly, but it does the job. And the selling element is the ability to be able to import your current Google reader data and it does. Go ahead and try it.
Bloglovin. I’ve seen it, you have seen it. This became very popular when GFC (Google Friend Connect) was not supported anymore in the WordPress platform, remember now? Lot’s of folks made the switch and seem happy.
Digg. This one just got released as of June 29, it’s been highly anticipated by many, including me. It promises to be as clean and beautiful as Feedly, but with the visual feel of Pinterest (not ready yet as of June 29). Feedly seems to be more ahead on this actually.
There are sites that offer to be an alternative: Yahoo, Newsvibe, Pulse; but since I wasn’t impressed with them, I won’t mentioned them.
Do you know of a great Google reader alternative? the geek in me would love to check it out.
