Welcome to another #WhyFakeItJustMakeIt edition – where we meet to share our stories around food, our successful recipe (or disaster) or that life-saver cooking tip. It goes without saying we are all encouraged to visit each other’s posts and comment, or even better pin or share. If this is your first time, have a look at previous recipes in our dedicated Pinterest board.
This month my 3 year old has been more involved in the kitchen. Her curiosity has led her to ask “what’s for breakfast mommy?” every weekend, this curiosity is always welcome with happiness considering I was struggling a lot with her picky diet last year. I was worried. She wants to help me, she wants to pass me ingredients and she also wants to help me stirring. It’s awesome!
It has become a tradition – if it could be called that in the last 4 weekends – to make oatmeal for breakfast. There’s something comforting about it, I don’t know, I just know I want to make it for us every weekend.
Ingredients
1 1/2 cup 5 Minute Ready Oatmeal
1 cup Water
2 cups Milk
1 tbsp Ground cinnamon
1 tbsp Vanilla extract
1 cup Peaches (I like the ones in syrup)
1/2 cup Pecans
200 ml Maple Syrup
1 small Fruit Yogurt
Directions
1. I don’t usually follow the directions of the oatmeal’s box on how to prepare it since I realized I didn’t like the texture once cooked as suggested. So, I boil 1 cup of water and 2 cups of milk instead. Of course I stir it to avoid a disaster with the boiling milk.
2. I add the cinnamon and vanilla extract once the milk and water is hot, stir well and bring to medium heat. Then add the oatmeal and stir again. Once the oatmeal is cooked I put the oatmeal aside and add the Maple syrup and stir once more (I might adjust to taste).
3. When serving I add about 2 tablespoons of yogurt on top of the oatmeal, then add some chopped peaches and chopped pecans for texture.
This is a winner taste with my little girl. First she is a yogurt lover, second she is into mixing the ingredients especially when the oatmeal is hot and the yogurt is all she has to bring the temperature down. Winner recipe!
We hope we have given some inspiration for your next breakfast! Now it’s your turn, grab our badge and link up with us. Or if your liked this post, pin it or share it. I’d be very grateful.
