Days with my 3 year old rarely get boring. There’s something new to learn, naps to battle, or simply (and yet comical) things to just explain and discover. Well, learning the ABC’s has been one of them for my kid.
About 6 months ago, Milla learned the whole alphabet thanks to the non-stop music being played at daycare, in the car, at home, gah! we were sick of the song almost immediately! But she liked it so we put up with it for a week and then moved on to something else.
I have videos of her singing it in different ways, with and without microphone, with and without music in the background to support it. All of them, lovely.
Last week she started “reading” her Toddler Treasury book to me. And by reading you understand is pretty much to tell the figures on every page. Right in the middle of the book a two-page alphabet letters with figures appeared and she read. I don’t know if it was her dad or her teacher at daycare, but Milla started reading “A as in apple, B as in Bob, etc…”. I don’t read this way, so I can’t tell she learned it from someone other than this Mexican.
A as in apple
B as in ball
C, D, E, F, G, H, I, all great
until…
J as in straw
K, L and M
N as in birds
O, P
Q as in mommy
R as in bunny
S, T, U,
V as in bus
W as in watch
X as in picture
Y as in garbage can (it took me a week to figure this one out)
and Z!
So I giggled after every single word she said. It was super cute to hear what it made sense to her. Even though there was no relation to the word I give her an A+ for trying and finishing her task. I guess it’s time for me to “teach” her the supposed-word-to-be, huh? In her defence, who would know the word ‘x-ray’ anyway?
This whole reading thing was once tedious I must confess (which this will be a separate post), but since these last couple of times, reading the ABC’s it’s now a hub for me to relax, enjoy the laugh and appreciate the togetherness.
What’s the funniest thing you’ve heard from a toddler? I bet there are lots of funny stories out there.

and here I looked at “G” and thought “fence” – LOL
because that is what it looks like to me.
So I am totally with the 3 year old.
My youngest daughter keeps adding an “ed” to the end of a lot of words. For example, “I beated you mama” when we play Go Fish and I lose. (which happens a lot). I don’t get it and it’s proving very hard to beak the habit.
